Video: Larry and Col “Do” LOA in NYC. Part One
Part 1 of 4. Come hang out with Larry Hochman and Colleen McGunnigle as we laugh, carelessly cross Manhattan streets, discuss Law of Attraction and come to some great conclusions about living happily and with purpose.
New “Old” Video: Bouncing Back From A Bad Day
I was looking at some of my past videos and realized how important THIS one is for right now. Believe it or not, some of us are going to struggle with unwanted feelings during the holiday season. Here are two welcome things: a look at lush summer time scenery, and a way out of feeling bad into feeling better.
Happy Holidays - for real,
Larry

What Do You Call The Person Who Graduated Last In His Medical School Class?
(Repost of an article from last summer. Getting ready to create some REAL magic on our call this Sunday.)
*** ***
Well, what do you call that person?
We spend much of our lives in a state of homeostasis, or trying to keep a balance of where we think we’re supposed to be.
Think of a thermostat. It’s set at a certain temperature. If the room gets too cold, the heater comes on. Warm air is pumped in until the room is goes back to the thermostat setting. If there’s a cooling unit, same thing happens when the room gets too warm.
That’s homeostasis.
Human beings, especially in their interactions with others have that same mechanism. We have a set point for our lives, and for our dealings with the significant people in our lives. When things get too hot for our comfort level, we cool them down. If they cool down too much, we turn up the heat. Balance is restored - at least our own personal version of balance.
Now some of us - especially the wise, ambitious far-sighted people reading this story - want to grow. Even when the forces around us pull back to our current reality, we still have that desire for more.
The discomfort of breaking out of our little box kicks in.
But so does what Eric Butterworth calls Divine Dissatisfaction. “Dammit, I’m supposed to be doing more!”
You may be in that place. I’m often in that place. Someone who I love dearly is in that place right now.
There’s a saying many of the modern day sages use, and it may be the right one for you to hear right now…
“You don’t have to get it right. You just have to get it going.”
My dear friend wants to get it right. She is SO blessed with wisdom and love it makes her crazy to not express all of it.
I hear you.
Please understand this: the Universe supports those who make a commitment to their dreams, even when things seem way out of balance.
And our institutions - family, workplace, soccer leagues etc. - can be surprisingly flexible when it comes to supporting people who want change.
The ones that aren’t? Don’t worry. You’ll either overpower them, or move on.
You’ll stumble, fall, get scraped up…
…and find those who are moving in your direction and receive love and comfort from them.
You don’t have to get it right. You just have to get it going.
So what do you call the person who graduated last in his class from medical school?
Doctor.
With Love,
Larry

Pressure and Time
One of my favorite movies is The Shawshank Redemption. It’s about a man who is falsely imprisoned for murdering his wife.
Andy, the main character did everything he could over the twenty years of time in which the movie took place to keep his dignity and sanity. He carved chess pieces out of rocks. He helped build a prison library. And he studied geology. His friend Red, played by Morgan Freeman (who is also the movie’s narrator) noted geology is the study of pressure and time.
It’s true. I won’t give away the ending of the movie in case you haven’t seen it and want to. But Andy very much conducted his life based on the pressure on him and time allotted.
We’re very much creatures in that same mold. Much of our pressure is external. Bills must get paid, appointments must be kept, dinners must be cooked, etc. Modern life exerts its own stresses on us.
And most people won’t go past that point of pressure. It’s enough. They feel the pull of time, the march toward closure. At some point they reckon they will die and meet whatever is next after this experience. They may as well have a good time in the meanwhile, and try to behave well on the Earth plane in case they are to be judged afterward.
If you have chosen to read this article, you probably have a different kind of pressure, like Andy did. The pressure of living out the genius, your music, your purpose, choose whatever word works for you. That thing that’s yearning to come out.
Expressing your sacred self. That’s a phrase I like.
The pressure builds. And it pushes you to do things you hadn’t found the courage to do before.
You’re in a community of people with extraordinarily high vibrations. You’ve GOTTA make it happen. The pressure of living out your dream, coupled with the pressure of living up to the standard here is enormous.
Time? Things go in their own time, which has nothing to do with our very limited perspective. This marvelous planet we live on evolved over billions of years. You took around 40 weeks to finish cooking inside your mother.
We accelerate the process a little bit when we plug into better surroundings and role models. Like the environment and people right here.
Time does what time does. Honor it. It got you into the present moment with all the pressure of desire for something good and new and harmonious.
Bless the pressure. Bless the time.
With much appreciation,
Larry

The Wall Street Swan Dive
As we’ve seen time and time again, people kill themselves when fortunes are lost. Like The Great Depression.
And as we’ve also seen people kill others when fortunes are lost, often their own families. It’s something that happens with animals when their offspring get sick or when the parent knows it’s sick and won’t be able to care for the babies. Rather than leave them to fend for themselves, they sometimes kill them. My first harsh lesson with that was with a family of hamsters back in 1987.
So are we hard-wired into our own animal programming? When our finances take a nosedive, are we to follow?
I didn’t bother to check how much I lost in my various tax sheltered annuities and retirement accounts over the past few months. I’m sure it was a lot. Those are for the long term. I choose not to put attention on them.
Others do, and that’s great. They see them in their “power zone.”
I exercise control over what makes sense to me: my products, my coaching, my avenues of leveraged income. I’ve got a few of those.
I exercise control over ME…my skills, my emotions, my inner peace that allows the channels to prosperity to stay open…even when more than a trillion dollars disappears from the global economy.
No swan diving. Too many people depend on me - for financial strength, for emotional strength, for companionship, for guidance, for love.
And too many people depend on those who take the swan dive, including those who will replace them in which they work. Is THAT the role model they want.
(And by the way, the “swan dive” doesn’t have to be an actual suicide. Long term despair in any form is another form of swan dive, maybe even worse in some ways because there’s no closure.)
Please understand this: anything we make can be remade - stronger and better, with lessons learned.
If we have SKILLS, including the power to learn and grow, we can do it all over again.
And we don’t have to be attached to the “stuff.” I’ll never take a swan dive for a swimming pool, or a house, or any amount of money and the alleged “security” it represents.
The phrase is “Happiness is an Inside Job.” I agree. So is security.
There’s a sunrise every morning.
You have your wits to get you around.
You have the ability to be independent and INTERDEPENDENT.
You can start over anytime and decide where you want to be.
You can cultivate an enjoyment of any aspect of life, including the lean times. It prepaves and prepares for the good stuff.
You don’t have to be attached to the symbols of what you’ve manifested. The meaning of your stuff is exactly what you assign it - no more and no less.
Other people’s opinions of your status is outside of your control. Focusing on it creates an external locus of control. Now your emotions are dependent on someone else’s approval.
No swan dives. Appreciation. All is well. You won’t starve. You won’t freeze. Creature comforts come and go.
You’re going to be fine. You have you, and that’s all you’ve ever needed.
Your Abundant Friend,
Larry
