I Smile at Pain (and so can you)

Yesterday at the gym I thought about something that caused me discomfort. Not a big deal, but something that was a little unsettling. It inspired another thought that made me feel a whole lot better. Maybe it will do the same for you.

Often when I’m thinking - in a relaxed allowing state, free from self recrimination I find the complicated parts of my life unraveling.

I come up on a problem, some part of my present that’s not at ease. I see the error of thought, emotion or behavior. There’s discomfort, maybe even pain. It’s laid out clear as day.

And I smile.

When confronted with the thorny part of their lives many people will furrow their brows, curse their luck and otherwise react negatively. They feel powerless before their problems. They allow themselves to be victims.

I enjoy understanding my problems. Once a pattern makes sense to me, even a bad one I instantly feel better. I can choose to alter that pattern, quickly or slowly. Or I can choose to live with it for the time being and turn my attention to things that are more important to me in the moment.

Or I can even decide to live with it altogether and celebrate my perfect imperfection.

But knowledge is the beginning of power. It’s the gateway we can cross…quickly, slowly or not at all.

When we smile at our pain we honor ourselves and our glorious self-awareness regardless of any other circumstances.

Got some pain? Bless it. See it as a growth experience.

Get quiet and breathe into it.

And watch it magically bless you back.

Your Friend,
Larry

P.S. Please don’t confuse understanding the pattern of pain with sitting for hours on end, trying to understand the “why” of it. That’s the worst kind of hell I know of, and one many counselors are guilty of perpetuating (I’m a certified counselor, so I’m allowed to say that). As I tell my coaching clients, the why’s usually come to the surface…very gently when you surrender the effort to understand.

P.P.S. If you haven’t gotten on my newsletter at http://NoMoreHoldingBack.com yet, this is the right time to do so. Got some groups that will be forming next mont

You Don’t Have To Be A Big Player To PLAY BIG!

( Have you seen it yet?  MANIFEST WITH LARRY )

***   ***

THE BACKSTORY…

I wrote a piece that I intended to put out this morning.  It started with a woman who had unsubscribed from one of  my newsletters and said some not very nice things on the way out the door.  Happens from time to time.  Short version: she accused me of being judgmental and a bully.

I disagreed.  And I wrote an article in response to her note.  And I was all set to put it out.

Then I sent it to one of my friends to get a reaction.

I got a joking response - “I don’t think I should go there.”

Well, that’s exactly where I wanted him to go.  Otherwise I wouldn’t have asked for his opinion.

It took some teeth-pulling, but eventually I got my answer.  Short version: the article was a disaster waiting to happen.  He told me to bury it in a deep hole and never let it see the light of day.

So I took another look.  And I agreed.  Just put down my shovel to write this instead.

***   ***

This is not about the other article.  It’s about my friend.  And it’s about YOU.

The friend who finally came clean wants a strong, leveraged income he can work around his family.  He’s not looking to get super rich from his efforts.  Some extra money to keep up with expenses and have a little extra at the end of the month for fun would be just super.

He doesn’t want to be the superstar in front of a room of adoring fans.  He likes his life the way it is and wants to find a way to keep it intact.

So he’s not looking to be a “Big Player.”

***   ***

That really doesn’t matter.  Here’s THE THING I want you to understand…

If you’re going to do anything to improve your lifestyle - make money in a business, advance your career, lose weight, gain weight, get healthier, get a sweetheart, fix a broken relationship, etc. - you don’t necessarily have to be a big player.

But you have to PLAY BIG.

I asked my friend to look at that article because I had my own doubts.  This is someone whose opinion I respect.  I made that clear.

But he was still shy about asserting himself…about expressing the source energy inside that told him he was right…and felt strongly about.

(I know he felt strongly, because the one sentence response I asked for turned into ten paragraphs.)

It’s not about how BIG you want to be.  It’s how TRUE TO YOURSELF you want to be.

That’s what the Universe responds to.  It’s what people around you respond to.

It’s how you free up your own energy to go out and get whatever you want.

***   ***

Got something in your life you KNOW isn’t right?  Are you permitting it?

You don’t get to complain about what you permit.

And you don’t get to have success until you unfold all that you are.

Once you do, you get to have as much or as little as you’d like.

Thank you, my friend, for your wise counsel.  I learned and grew from it.

Thank you MORE for sharing your authentic, congruent Divine self.

NOW…how are YOU going to free up the inner genius inside?

I have a suggestion (don’t I always?)

Start with MANIFEST MASTERMIND.  A new community that Steve Pohlit and Brian Campbell put together for people who are DROP DEAD serious about making good stuff happen.  You have access to guides, coaches, and support…from people who’ve already done what you want to do.

Start with the free course: “7 Steps To Manifesting Your Dreams.”   CLICK HERE to check it out.

***   ***

I’m off to enjoy this glorious Sunday morning.  Please make sure you do the same.

Your Friend,
Larry

P.S.  “Playing big” has a funny way of taking the toxic people out of your life and replacing them with some really cool ones.  It also has a funny way of making money and other resources hunt you down and stick to you.  I found out in the greatest of ways.  Is it your turn?

This is a repost from last New Year’s Eve/Day.  Please read on if the spirit moves you.
.
To:YOU
From: ME

.
January 1, 2008, 12:10 a.m.
.
I’m doing my own version of partying.
.
I’m not at a wild New Year’s party.  Not in a bar.  Not having a $100.00 a plate meal at a restaurant.  Not at Times Square.
.
I’m at home, in my living room, laptop in hand.  I’m doing what I love.
.
I’m in “The Zone.”
.
Hey, I know how to have fun!  We just got back from a week at Disney World.
.
So what did you do this New Year’s Eve?  Are you reading this about the time I’m sending it?
.
Whatever it was, did it contribute to your wealth?  Your sense of well being?  Did you party out of a sense of duty or obligation?
.
Are you excited about the direction your life is moving?  Is the love here?  Or is it on the way?
.
How about the money?
.
How about the peace of mind?
.
How about the health?
.
Keep reading.  I’ve got some thoughts you’re going to want to know about.
.
We don’t all do things the same way, do we?  We don’t think the same way.  We don’t feel the same way.  We don’t perceive things the same way.
.
We all have things we value and things we don’t need to hold onto. Some of us have things we need to let go of!
.
If we all wanted the same things and did things the same way, we’d all have the same stuff.
.
And yet we don’t.  Some have more, some have less.
.
Those who have more of the good stuff of life?  They manifested it through having a clear vision of it.
.
And believing they were worthy of it.
.
And taking themselves seriously enough to have the discipline to stick to a plan to make it happen.
.
And doing what it takes to keep a state of optimism, gratitude and general sense of joy about their lives.
.
Those with less?  They are just as loved and cherished by the Universe/God/Divine Intelligence/choose your own word.
.
All they’re missing are the SKILLS to make something happen.
.
Or perhaps the mentorship of someone who can get them into a better flow.
.
Or maybe some better information, so they don’t have to make the same mistakes over and over.
.
Or possibly a healthier environment…a sacred circle of people who will honor their commitment and invite them to contribute their own love and energy.
.
***   ***   ***
.
In 2008 I invite you to be a FREAK…like me and others who have the commitment…the courage of their convictions.
.
You know…the ones who smile at “the rules,” then do what they KNOW is right…for themselves.
.
Maybe you’re already one of these people and are looking to run with a cooler crowd.
.
What you’re seeing here is ENTHUSIASM and PASSION.
.
Without apology.  No one else is responsible for my success and prosperity.  Just me.
.
And no one else is responsible for yours.  You own it, my friend.
.
It’s 2008.  You’re here.
.
Now…see it all the way through.
.
***   ***   ***
.
That’s the 2008 version.  Now here’s my two sentence thoughts on 2009:

Transition: personal, interpersonal and global.  Just watch.

I’ve got important stuff to say on the topic.  Email me at Larry@NoMoreHoldingBack.com with the subject line Wants and Needs.  I’ll send you my free Special Report, available to my subscribers only: WHAT YOU WANT AND WHAT YOU NEED IN 2009.

For real…it could make all the difference in the world.

For now, I want you to see yourself as the Divine, Magnificent Being you already are, worthy of all the joy, abundance and magic that’s on the other side of your thoughts, beliefs and habits.

“…and I Mean That With All The Love In My Heart.”

A fun expression we use in our house quite a bit.
.
Of course we say it when we’ve just dropped a piano on someone’s head, or at least stepped on a toe or two.  Supposedly, it’s to cushion the blow for whatever came before it, or is about to come.
.
I like that expression.  It’s fun to say.  Because most of the time when our family uses it amongst each other it’s in good fun.  I’ll use it on somone when I’m about to say something about their singing skills.  And they’ll use it on me after a comment about my fashion sense.
.
Here’s the cool thing…there’s very little real antagonism that goes on.  So if we’re having a real disagreement it can get serious, but quiet.  Sometimes we’ll use that expression and really mean it.  “I love you.  You’re magnificent.  Now here’s what I hate about what you’re doing.”
.
And every once in a while I use it outside the family.  It’s a great way of throwing someone off balance - getting them to hear you in a way they might not.
.
Most difficult conversations don’t have the words “with all the love in my heart” in them.
.
But when they do it forces the listener to pay closer attention than they might normally.
.
AND…I don’t use it unless there really is love in my heart.
.
Fortunately there almost always is, even when it isn’t focused on the person I’m discussing with in that moment.
.
Try this little gem of an expression when the circumstances seem right.  See if it lightens things up, or puts things into a clearer and better focus.
.
With All The Love In My Heart,
Larry

What Do You Call The Person Who Graduated Last In His Medical School Class?

December 12, 2008 by Larry · Leave a Comment
Filed under: No More Holding Back

(Repost of an article from last summer. Getting ready to create some REAL magic on our call this Sunday.)

*** ***

Well, what do you call that person?

We spend much of our lives in a state of homeostasis, or trying to keep a balance of where we think we’re supposed to be.

Think of a thermostat. It’s set at a certain temperature. If the room gets too cold, the heater comes on. Warm air is pumped in until the room is goes back to the thermostat setting. If there’s a cooling unit, same thing happens when the room gets too warm.

That’s homeostasis.

Human beings, especially in their interactions with others have that same mechanism. We have a set point for our lives, and for our dealings with the significant people in our lives. When things get too hot for our comfort level, we cool them down. If they cool down too much, we turn up the heat. Balance is restored - at least our own personal version of balance.

Now some of us - especially the wise, ambitious far-sighted people reading this story - want to grow. Even when the forces around us pull back to our current reality, we still have that desire for more.

The discomfort of breaking out of our little box kicks in.

But so does what Eric Butterworth calls Divine Dissatisfaction. “Dammit, I’m supposed to be doing more!”

You may be in that place. I’m often in that place. Someone who I love dearly is in that place right now.

There’s a saying many of the modern day sages use, and it may be the right one for you to hear right now…

“You don’t have to get it right. You just have to get it going.”

My dear friend wants to get it right. She is SO blessed with wisdom and love it makes her crazy to not express all of it.

I hear you.

Please understand this: the Universe supports those who make a commitment to their dreams, even when things seem way out of balance.

And our institutions - family, workplace, soccer leagues etc. - can be surprisingly flexible when it comes to supporting people who want change.

The ones that aren’t? Don’t worry. You’ll either overpower them, or move on.

You’ll stumble, fall, get scraped up…

…and find those who are moving in your direction and receive love and comfort from them.

You don’t have to get it right. You just have to get it going.

So what do you call the person who graduated last in his class from medical school?

Doctor.

With Love,
Larry

Jump In, The Water’s Warm!

December 5, 2008 by Larry · Leave a Comment
Filed under: No More Holding Back
If you’ve been reading my stuff for a while you may have seen me use the term, “jump in, the water’s warm.”
.
I like that phrase.  Been using it pretty consistently these days, along with another: “That’s Crazy Talk!”
.
(But that’s a whole different post.)
.
When I invite people into my community, either as a subscriber to one of my courses, my NO MORE HOLDING BACK Community, into one of my teleclasses or as an individual coaching client I often tell them the water’s warm.  People like imagery and metaphor.
.
And in my case it’s true.  Lots of people who are looking for the kind of support I (along with other quality coaches and trainers) have, feel out of place.  They’re uncomfortable, or itchy, or - more commonly - they feel lonely.
.
Yeah, that’s the BIG one.  There’s a segment of us that have thoughts and feelings that just don’t seem to be what the rest of the world is thinking.  We feel alone, alienated, even freakish.
.
Yet for all those bad feelings we haven’t told ourselves we’re wrong for feeling them.  Our inner drive - our knowing there’s some truth and greatness with our name on it - is just too powerful to sweep under the rug.
.
So we join communities.  Like mine.  Like Tony Robbins‘.  Like Randy Gage’s.  (Notice clever pairing of my community with the giants of the industry.
.
Souls are soothed.
.
People realize they aren’t alone.
.
They jump into a pool of warm acceptance and regard.  It’s a place to heal and grow.
.
This is different from what other people do.  Some trainers make their programs or communities like boot camp.  Think Larry Winget: “Shut Up, Stop Whining And Get A Life.”
.
Nothing wrong with that.  Some people respond to that vibration.  I’m a fan of Larry W.  He’s great.  He makes you feel uncomfortable in your present surroundings and challenges you to think differently and do more.
.
But the people who are attracted to me are usually plenty uncomfortable already.  They need to change paradigms and perceptions.
.
They also need loving acceptance for who and where they are.  They tend to beat themselves up more than anyone else does.  And guidance, in the true sense of the word.
.
As a counselor I appreciate that.  I want people to love themselves for who and where they are.
.
Then I want to offer them an individual and/or group who will accept them in the present moment.
.
Then I want them to feel better, which is an important part of taking the next big steps in life.
.
Find a community that feels good to you. Mine, or someone else’s.  There are plenty of good ones out there.
.
Then jump in.  The water’s warm!
.
Your Friend,
Larry

The Black Teletubby of DEATH!!!

November 29, 2008 by Larry · Leave a Comment
Filed under: No More Holding Back
A couple of months ago I was getting ready to start the day.  Downstairs at the laptop, doing my thing.  Drinking my tea, checking my emails, writing out my intentions for the day.
Now I’m still not sure how the thought popped into my head…perhaps it’s best I don’t know.  Maybe someone was talking about children’s shows.  Maybe someone was talking about doom and gloom and it registered in my subconscious.
But there it was - The Black Teletubby of Death.
If you don’t have kids the right age, or if you didn’t let them watch television, a little explanation is in order.  Teletubbies was a very popular kids show in the 1990’s, with big, friendly, colorful characters called Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La La and Po.  Colorful, British, and speakers of Gibberish.  And they lived in a spaceship and ate only custard.
No one would ever equate them with anything evil.
Perhaps that’s where the concept of The Black Teletubby Of Death came from.
Whatever it was it set me off on a full blown tangent.  I immediately started picturing this in my head.  And the more I talked about it, the funnier it got.  I brought up the idea to my daughters, then 14 and 11.  They were all set to call an ambulance for poor old Daddy.
In psychological terms this is called Divergent Thinking.  Basically taking a cognitive left turn when “normal people” usually go right.  It’s similar to Convergent Thinking, which is taking two thoughts that don’t seem to belong and putting them together to create a new construct.
Most of the great inventions, new concepts, works of art, music etc. are the result of one or both of these two.  That, and a lot of patience, resource building and self-discipline to refine and improve upon the original idea.
This particular morning I was a very Divergent Thinker.  I didn’t take my Black Teletubby Of Death idea very far.  It’s in the public domain.  If you want to build upon it and get the permission of the Teletubby people, you have my blessing.
But what happens if you stumble across something that turns into the next BIG THING?
What happens if you say, “NO MORE HOLDING BACK!  I’m going to let my imagination run wild, even at the risk of people laughing at me.  I’m going to develop my ideas and share them with like-minded people so we co-create something really good.”
Worst case scenario: you give your kids a good laugh.
Best case scenario: you step into the GREATNESS each of us already has inside us.
You make new friends and lots of money, which frees you up to do whatever you want, whenever and wherever you want.
Take your ideas out for a spin!  Let people see the ridiculous, crazy, wonderful best side of you.  If they laugh at or scorn you, you’ll know it’s about them, not you.  If they appreciate them and fire back a few of their own, you’ve got a friend and partner in the crazy manifestation process.
Have a Ball!

The Most Important Thing You’ll Read This Year If You’re A Biz Builder

November 24, 2008 by Larry · 1 Comment
Filed under: No More Holding Back

If you know me, you know I’m not prone to exaggeration or over the top language. I like my credibility, and won’t ask you to do something unless it’s REALLY important.

Well if you’re in any kind of home business, please read this. It may be the most important thing you read this year….

I have a friend - a close friend - who I absolutely believe in. He’s got wisdom, intuition and a way of bringing out the best in those with whom he works. The world is crying out for his skills, though the world doesn’t know it yet.

(Stick with me on this story. I’m going to tell you about “Anthony” but ultimately this is about YOU.)

Anthony is a novice in marketing, and just a little shy about introducing himself in the kind of way that will get people’s attention. Typical stuff for someone who is new to this kind of industry or has tried and failed in home business in the past.

I engineered a set of circumstances so that Anthony had a good strong designer and copywriter working with him free of charge. I also found a hosting deal through a friend of mine so that his hosting fees were literally six dollars a month, with outstanding customer service built in.

So far so good, right?

Anthony was thrilled with the deal, and told me he’d have to wait until payday to make the transaction, since things were REALLY tight this week. No problem. Been there, done that, happy to be out.

A few days later I got an email that went out to Anthony’s mailing list on one of the social networking sites. One of the “gurus” he knows instructed him to sign up for a monthly affiliate program - at $79.95 bucks a pop - and blast his lists, telling them to do the same.

He jumped in. I got an email inviting me to be part of this deal, and register under his affiliate link.

What he’s marketing is good stuff. It’s a product that has value (though I’m not sure it’s eighty dollars worth). It’s not something I’m interested in at the moment, but in another time it might have been. And if I do decide it’s worth, I’ll surely grab it through his affiliate link.

But there’s the thing. This good, strong effective person is doing what most people in home business do…look for “The Magic System”, as if plugging into it will catapult them into riches and recognition.

I asked Anthony the hard questions. How will he sustain the $79.95 per month expense? Does he think this one letter, which looks very similar to the other marketing letters we’re all bombarded with will really influence anyone?

Is his upline guru supporting him in his marketing efforts, or just pointing him in a direction and giving him a push?

And the important question: is he putting blind faith in a guru who may or may not know what he’s doing, or in himself…his ability to learn, grow, attract and stand on his own two feet?

*** ***

Of course I’m talking from experience here. Full disclosure: I’m not in the MLM business at the moment. Could happen again someday, and I am an affiliate for several different entities and programs I feel good about. I’m all for a loving exchange of value for value: cash for great products or service. And I’m on both ends of that equation.

What I’m NOT for is pouring my money into a program that disempowers someone from experiencing their own greatness.

I love network marketing. I entered it in 1999, lost money for a while, learned a lot, broke through, made money, still get my royalty checks years after I stopped building my organization, and moved with something that is more in alignment with who I am. When I find the right product or service with the right people and right energy, AND it’s the right time I’ll probably jump back in.

(Note to prospectors…this is NOT the right time. Do not pitch me.)

I eventually did start making money because I built the most important business asset I have: myself. It’s really the only important asset. I became attractive…to myself and to the outside world. And along the way I brought people into my life with complimentary energy and skills. Didn’t really have to do anything other than let my energy out. People who were ready responded.

*** ***

It’s the message I gave to Anthony. You are more than good enough. This is someone who already has a high level of personal development. He just forgot…the fear of stepping into unfamiliar territory caused him to run to the herd.

I’m in the marketplace. I believe 100% in what I sell, which are my own products, training classes and personal coaching. They’ve worked for many others. I’ve got documentation of people who have made money, found the love of their lives, got healthier and found peace, with my presence as the spark that lit the flame.

And I market the products and services of people who have done the same…stuff that has moved me, not any old thing that comes down the highway.

I want you to buy from me and enroll in my coaching classes - if you’re ready - because they will give you the only thing you really need: access to your own genius and power.

I want Anthony to let out the magic inside himself. I want YOU to do the same.

I don’t want you to think that running with the herd will take you to the next stage of your business development. The “duplicatable system” shows up in everyone’s inbox, and usually in their spam folder.

Too much noise, too much traffic. The herd is being screened out.

What will never be screened out - what the world will always want - is someone who is authentically, loving, confidently themselves. They’ll pay to be around us…absorb our energy, love us, let us love them, grow with us and move into a state of grace and appreciation with us.

Us. Like Anthony. Like Me. Like You.

Yes, like YOU…if you dare to step into that role.

However you do it, find someone who will guide you towards the REAL you…the beautiful, magnetic soul waiting to come out and play.

Have An Amazing Week,
Larry

P.S. The NMHB community are the first to see this, because you have a head start in the co-creative process with me. This will be going out to the world in 24 hours.

The Passageway To Your Music

November 21, 2008 by Larry · Leave a Comment
Filed under: No More Holding Back

So I’m rushing around the kitchen, doing this and that and a little bit of the other.  Sarah, my 12 year old is with me.  She’s chatting about music, her favorite topic and I’m half-listening (yes, it’s true).

A little background, for those of you who don’t know my family: Sarah is an exceptional singer.  She sings with the Connecticut Children’s Chorus and has sung with the Connecticut Opera Company.  It’s her passion, and she’s willing to put the joy and the time in.  Most of the videos I’ve produced over the past couple of months have been recorded during the two and half hours I’m waiting for her during her Tuesday rehearsals.

She’s learning her art, which makes me very happy - even when she’s giving me details I’m not particularly interested in, at time when my brain is on other things.

But one thing she said to me stood out tonight.  Sarah was practicing her vocal exercises, something that was making me crazy at the moment she was doing it.  Seemed to be a whole bunch of random noises specifically designed to antagonized her father.  Then I was about to ask (demand) she stop she told me how she hadn’t completely warmed up, and she had to open her whole body to let the sound out.

“Run that by me again, Sarah.”

“You have to make a passageway through your body to let the air come out and go…”

The she stood erect, breathed in deeply and produced this note.  It was absolute clarity.  It seemed like it came from her toes.  This little girl, in a random moment on a Thursday evening generated a sound I’ve never created in my life.

Holy Moley!!!!

Out of the mouths of babes.  Sarah nailed what we’re all trying to do.  When you’re trying to make something beautiful, profound, sublime, choose your adjective…you have to open up your being - your whole being.

You have to set aside the the things that block your music from coming out.  They may not seem related, but when you intend to give it all you’ve got in one area of your life, it helps if all your channels are open.  It may even be necessary.

Yeah, Sarah can produce some neat sounding stuff in any given moment.  But if she’s going to give it her best..the kind of thing that gets her on stage with world class musicians, the channels have to be open.

How about you?  What are you working on?  What passages need to be cleared?

What are you holding onto that it’s time to let go of?

NO MORE HOLDING BACK!  Your music - your full throated, soul driven beautiful music is waiting to come out…in whatever medium that works for you.

And greatness is on the other side of those closed passageways…guranteed!

Let it go!  Let ALL of it go!
